The 18th, 19th, 20th of May saw Jim and I in Birmingham with Avi Moyal (Director of the IKMF) and some of the instructors from around Britain, hammering out some updates, being shown the new style of grading and generally bashing each other around.
These updates are to get the instructors teaching all the same techniques and lasted 10 hours.

I am going to look at a new venue in Millbrook on Tuesday 10th April with a view to opening the week or two after that.
I have also been asked by Portsmouth University to give a demo on the 23rd April at 18:15hrs for one hour. Time to get the demo team dusted off. Any volunteers?
Essential are actively looking for another venue in Portsmouth to open another class.
Coming soon to the Southampton and Portsmouth area will be women only classes. These classes will be run during the day.

If we couldn't be afraid, we wouldn't survive for long. We'd be walking into oncoming traffic, stepping off of rooftops and carelessly handling poisonous snakes. We'd be hanging out with people who have tuberculosis. In humans and in all animals, the purpose of fear is to promote survival. In the course of human evolution, the people who feared the right things survived to pass on their genes. In passing on their genes, the trait of fear and the response to it were selected as beneficial to the race.

To produce the fight-or-flight response, the hypothalamus activates two systems: the sympathetic nervous system and the adrenal-cortical system. The sympathetic nervous system uses nerve pathways to initiate reactions in the body, and the adrenal-cortical system uses the bloodstream. The combined effects of these two systems are the fight-or-flight response.

The process of creating fear takes place in the brain and is entirely unconscious. There are two paths involved in the fear response: The low road is quick and messy, while the high road takes more time and delivers a more precise interpretation of events. Both processes are happening simultaneously.

Did you know that by being a member of Essential Krav Maga, you can train at any of our classes for no additional fee!
You also receive a discount on any club course that we organise.
Last year we ran nearly one seminar per month, two of which was on a plane.
Did you know that you can also grade after four months of steady training, and then every six months after that (you don't need a license either).
We also hold social events such as club nights out, BBQs on the beach, and so on and we try to encourage members families to come along as well.
